Must you Help Others to be Successful Online?

Recently on one of my favorite blogs I found an interesting conversation started by Vic Dorfman's comment.

He said :

“ This is great content and I’d expect nothing less from you.

But I have a problem. I don’t care about helping people. I ONLY care about making money. Now… I realize that the more value I provide the more that’ll come true but I just have to take a stand against this idea that we as Internet Marketers and entrepreneurs have to adopt this altruistic mind set.

THAT’S the kind of thing that gives us a bad name.

Everybody’s out for themselves – it’s human nature. And I see nothing wrong with it. Why the self-deception?

Please don’t misconstrue this comment as confrontational!

I just want to clear the air because I know a lot of people feel the same and I’d love to hear your opinion on this issue. ” Follow thread

Many people were quick to criticize Vic but I knew what Vic meant and I know there are many people just like him who feel that way. So I decided to discuss this and make some important points that hopefully will help you in achieving a successful blog or becoming successful online.

Dictionary.com defines helping people as...

“ To give or provide what is necessary to accomplish a task or satisfy a need; contribute strength or means to; render assistance to; cooperate effectively with; aid; assist.

To make easier or less difficult; contribute to; facilitate: The exercise of restraint is certain to help the achievement of peace. ”

Do you have to Help others to be Successful in Blogging

The simple answer is Yes, you do. Why?

A blog is a place where people expect to find daily helpful articles on the topic you cover.

They don't care what it takes you to make available the content but they expect it.

You put in the trouble to provide regular blog content because the topic interests you and you hope to make money in the process. But you also have many competitors, if readers don't find what they want on your blog, they will be quick to leave and look for a competitors site where they can get the information they want. And since you don't want that to happen (not that you can control it anyway) you strive to make yourself the Go-to guy, the expert in your niche. You write quality content, sometimes uncommon quality content, go the extra miles to help readers and eventually build credibilty with your readers.

You take the time to keep unique quality content on your blog and readers will keep coming to your blog. Once they know they can trust you, the money starts rolling in because anything you recommend that has worked for you will be trusted and purchased by a good number of your readers.

This is how successful blogs are built. It takes time but it happens eventually. Usually not too long if you're ready to work the work.

Do you have to Help others to Make Money Online?

The answer is a capital NO. And I feel it is important for this to be cleared because a lot of people's reply to Vic's comment insinuated the guy was selfish but that's not true.

It is true that helping others is the best and most rewarding way to make money online and it is the way I have choosen to make money on the internet but everybody can't go that way. Not everybody have the time or the patience to put 2 or more years giving free services.

Infact if you don't understand what you're doing and have a strong believe for it, your neighbors and sibling's negative comments will make you quit before you can earn a dime. Some neighbors have asked me, "so since you have been spending time and money on the Internet how much have you made?" I try to always explain that you can't always make it about making money. But not many of them understand. And that is because the business of infopreneur is not meant for everyone.

So if you're interested in making money online quick and you think the time and work blogging requires is too much for you, it's fine to look into something else. Though Internet marketing can be done more effectively also by helping others but you can be successful at it without necessarily helping others but providing value. How?

Start a website on reviewing products that interests you in a niche you love. This will cost you some money at the beginning because you'll have to buy the products, use them and if you find them helpful, do an honest review on it. It could turn out so good that people will be willing to give you products for free to use and review. I can't remember the particular site, but I know I have once ran into a site of someone who does almost exactly what I am suggesting and he's doing very well. He even had a great book on how he does what he does. He might not really be helping people to the complete definition of the word but he is providing great service and value. He helps you make an informed buying decision from his own experience he shares about the products.

If you choose not to even go that way, you can simply set up a sales page for every product that interests you and that you've tried and tested it effectiveness and you know others will find the product really helpful. You make your money quick and you provide value. Where the problem lies here is if you simply push products on people that you have no idea about but claim that it's the best product (s) in the world just to make money.

Like I always say, the easiest way to make money is not always the most rewarding.

There's no one single way to success that is the most important point I am bringing out here. And not until you find something that really meets with your goal and purpose online, you may continue to struggle to succeed.

Conclusion on Make Money Online Vs. Helping People

Napoleon Hill once said:

"It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed."

There has been many examples to prove that statement right. Life is not just about how much you can make, but how many people you are able to help along the way. This is what brings the most fulfillment for most successful blogs or website niche experts. The first email you get of someone saying 'thank you for such an helpful post' or how he or she was able to resolve a problem because of your article.

Having said that I also know that we are coming from different places and different situations. Someone might just have lost his or her Job and looking for a quick way to make money online in other to cater for his or her family. So we can't really judge anyone as long as the person doesn't result to crime to make a living. If making money online is your primary motive, don't be shy and just go along with the crowd. Instead find out what is the quick less stressful way to earn online and focus on that.

Do what you know how to do best!
