This article is a tutorial on the proper way to configure the All in One SEO pack in regards to search engine optimization.
The all in one SEO Pack is one of the top best Wordpress plugins you should upload to your blog. This plugin is essential because it allows you to optimize almost everything related to meta tags for your blog.
You can differentiate the information you display to your readers from the one displayed to the search engines. That way you can afford to write attractive titles for your readers but show the search engines only keyword based titles.
As a beginner you may not be familiar with some of the terms in the All in one SEO pack. You can just use the settings here.
These settings could be debated by some bloggers but it is the common settings used by bloggers seeing good results with their pages at the search engines.
Once you have uploaded the plugin, the name should appear under plugins in the left hand side of your dashboard. So click it and set as follows:
Plugin Status: Tick Enabled.
Home Title: This is a title independent of the one you have set before. It MUST include the particular keyword of your overall blog content that you will like to rank for at the search engines. If you don't set this, it will use the settings you already have.
Home Description: Write a description that best summarizes what your blog is about, make it attractive and appealing. Your keyword should be included at least once but not more than twice (once is the best). Don't be guilty of keyword stuffing.
Home Keywords: Enter the major keywords that apply to your blog. Make sure you start with your primary keyword separating each keyword with a comma.
Canonical URLs : When this function is set it allows you to use several URL for a single page. This is very unneccessary. Moreover, it can confuse the engines. So just leave it unchecked.
Rewrite Titles: Leave unchecked
Post Title Format: %post_title% | %blog_title%
Page Title Format: %page_title% | %blog_title%
Category Title Format: %category_title% | %blog_title%
Archive Title Format: %date% | %blog_title%
Tag Title Format: %tag% | %blog_title%
Search Title Format: %search% | %blog_title%
Description Format: %description%
404 Title Format: Nothing found for %request_words%
Paged Format: - Part %page%
Use Categories for META keywords: It is always best you add keywords to each post as you write them because then you can better target keywords best for each post. So leave this unchecked.
Dynamically Generate Keywords for Posts page: Same as above.
Use noindex for categories: Keep this checked. It means search engines won't index categories.
Use noindex for Archives: Same as above.
Use noindex for Tag Archives: Leave unchecked. Tags are very important to your pages. Leaving this unchecked allows the search engines to index tag pages and this helps your page rankings.
Autogenerate Descriptions: Leave unchecked. Descriptions are better written after writing each post. Allows you to target keywords and give each post an attractive and eye catching description.
Capitalize Category Titles: Keep checked.
For every other thing in the all in one SEO pack settings page (as seen in the image below), leave blank and click Update options.
