Website vs blog, find out the benefits and advantages of both and the best for you is the one that meets your online goals.
Blog benefits and advantages over a website? Which is the best? Both have pros and cons, whether to start a website or blog will depend on your goal online.
Compare both benefits below and ask yourself: "What are my goals online?" That will give you the right answer.
First it should be noted that a blog is also a website. The difference is that while a blog is dynamic, a traditional website is static.
It takes as little as $20 to set up a professional blog in minutes.
For a website depending on the number of pages you want and the type of work involved in the type of design you seek, paying someone to set it up could take serious money from your pocket.
Except of course you or a close friend can set it up not spending a dime.
If a close friend even set it up for you for free, you would have to be bothering the person every time you have to make an update. Which is not funny!
This is one of the strongest blog benefits because many people are not good with HTML and so can not design a website themselves. Which means they'll likely have to pay a designer every time they want to make an update on the website.
If you're among those who lack HTML skill then you want to consider if you can afford to take on such maintenance expenses.
Making a new post to your blog is always breeze.
You can post text, audio and videos on your site and have it online in a matter of minutes.
For a static website it could take several hours for an update to become available online. And like I said before you have to be good with web designing else you will have to pay a designer every time you want to make an update.
Since I started this website I have had to adapt and learn some HTML in other to be able to post articles easily.
If I wasn't using an All in One site building tool (Site Build It!) that has a block by block builder for those without HTML skill, I wonder how I would have coped.
Though recently with the step by step video guide that came with my site building tool I have been able to upload my own site design and now using a text editor to create my pages.
If I had to build a traditional site from the scratch though, I am sure I will still feel frustrated.
If you are familiar with the ease of using blogs like I am, you will almost hate working with a website. And that's the truth.
So why did I choose to use a website to present my content? Well, it's very difficult to build a lasting e-business on a blog. This is the biggest website advantage I think there is.
To build a lasting business on the Internet the best way is through a theme-focused site, which is difficult to achieved with a blog.
Another strong one of blog benefits is that when you activate your blog ping service (a server that receives your content and then make them available to third parties), a signal is sent out whenever you make a new post on your site.
So search engines are quickly notified of your new post. And that allows crawling and indexing of your pages faster than that of a website.
The quicker search engines index your pages the quicker you will start ranking for it.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is very necessary if you want free traffic from the search engines.
SEO is simply the way you present your topic's important keywords on your site and pages so that search engines are easily able to tell what your site is about.
Since websites does not allow for automatic pinging, it is also reasonable to think that it will require more on-site or on-page SEO than necessary.
It is easy to find search engine friendly themes or templates for blogs which makes on-page SEO easy if you use it well.
Since blogs have the ability for people to add to the topic discussed, it serves as a community where people can get and give information . So credibility is easily built than with a website.
Though some websites are beginning to add this feature to some of their site contents. Like for this website you can add comments to different topics .Update: With the Facebook comment app, now you can add your comment at the end of every article on this site.
This is a one of the blog benefits that is debatable.
It is believed by many that since Google loves content and blogs provide lots of it on a regular basis, even if they're not usually as rich as what you find on a theme-based website Google give blogs preference than websites.
This you will find to be true if you are a regular researcher. But then again, the numbers of blogs online outweighs the numbers of websites.
So it is not surprising that blogs will be displayed more in search engines. So this can't be said to be among strong blog benefits because there are lots of well-focused website on the first page of Google.
The comment allowed on blogs has a huge advantage over a website. If you had just started a blog, receiving your first comment can really give you confidence and zeal to do more knowing that someone found your post helpful.
As you reply and continue to exchange comments, you build the kind of connections and credibility that most websites don't give room for.
Update:
This is no longer an issue for a website that uses the Site Build It! software; as they have integrated Facebook comment app in the software allowing users to add the comment functionality to their site.
See below this article for an example of Facebook comment app. Don't forget to leave your comment.
Once you make a new post, it becomes your home page's topic. This means that the search engine and readers don't have to start looking for your recent post.
For Search engines this allows for quick crawling and indexing. For your readers, they immediately start reading without having to first search for it. Which will keep them coming.
This is another one of the strong blog benefits over most websites because if you create a page on a website without linking to it from the navbar and other pages it becomes unreachable to the Search engines and readers.
Moreover when a website reaches 200+ pages, it becomes more and more difficult for the Search engines to find and index it pages.
Though that's not the case for this website. The Search engines and readers are notified of new articles through it customized Blog.
And new readers can easily access new additions to this website through the "Recent Posts" button on the Navbar.
But the lack of the most recent post of the home page of a website can also be an advantage for it, since it would mean for blogs that it will have to regularly be updated else when people visit and not find a new post, they'll be quick to leave.
Like I said before Blog has it's benefits and website has its. If you wish to do real business online then combine the two for maximum result.
Well some have argued the following to be blog disadvantages.
Honestly blogging takes a good amount of time. Every good venture has its hazards. For blogging it is the Time.
The benefits of blogging though, covers for the time we sacrifice doing it.
Are you kidding me? Blog benefits are just too great for it to fade away.
In fact websites and offline companies are adding blogs to their brands to improve their brand and profit. So I can only see it getting better. Blogs are here to stay!
Well, who reads websites?
Make your content as valuable as possible. Give it your own unique voice and use good images to draw attention where necessary and people will not only read your blogs but will make you money.
From the blog comparison to a website above you can see that blogs have tremendous advantages over websites. But that doesn't mean that websites are useless. It all depends on what you want to achieve.
My advice on blog benefits over traditional website (website vs blog) is if you want to take your business to the next level, use both sites for better result. How can you use both?
There are two very rewarding ways.
Start a theme content-based site like this website on a topic you're knowledgeable on. Your website content is focused step by step on your topic that is designed to get free traffic from the search engines.
And your Blog is focused on building relationships with your readers if it is a full blown blog or customized blog where you use it to update readers and search engines like the one on this website.
Another good way is to showcase your products/services (if you have any) on a website then attach a full blog to it where you provide free information on what you have to offer on your website.
Your blog promotes your website though not directly.
With the increasing number of failed blogs and websites on the Internet today , the right question is no longer should I start a website or a Blog, but rather how can I build a lasting e-business?
The answer is build a theme-based content site like this one focused on a topic of your choice of course. How?
First you need the right information on how to build a lasting e-business. That's not common on the Internet.
Then you need great tools to help you choose the most profitable topic from the topics you know. Best monetization models and easy integration of web 2.0.
You need a community where everyone is concerned about your goal and always willing to guide you.
I was struggling online and not really sure what worked or how to go about it with so much conflicting information online then I found Site Build it! (SBI)and everything changed.
SBI explained to me with practical videos why the search engines work the way they do, what they want and how I can please them and my readers in other to get free thousands of search traffic everyday to my website.
So that I can actually sleep while the site makes money for me, which is not achievable with blogs or the usual website.
There's no issue of Blog benefits are more than website benefits because SBI eliminates the disadvantages of both and blends their benefits together for maximum result. God, I LOVE MY SBI! , you may do too.
But if you choose to blog, you can be rest assured that you will succeed with it if you follow the step by step guides that is provided on this website.
Whether you chose to use a blog or to build a website you can succeed using the same building process. After all a blog and a static website are only different format of presenting a site's content.
The format you chose to use is not what really dictates whether you succeed or fail online.
