Blog commenting is one of the best ways to promote a blog because of its numerous benefits.
In this article I discuss how to use blog commenting for link building and increasing blog traffic .
Dofollow and Nofollow are properly explained. And how to encourage commenting on your blog.
Commenting on blogs has so many benefits both for the commenter and the blog owner. That is why it is a blog marketing strategy that every blogger should use especially for blogs still struggling with traffic and not yet popular.
These are the major benefits of blog commenting and they all will result to a larger benefit, which is make more money with your blog.
You only get the benefits of a commenter when the comments you leave on blogs offer some value.
And as a blog owner you get those benefits when your articles or posts offer real value to readers. So it's all about offering value.
Blog commenting can be used to build some backlinks but it shouldn't be depended on solely as a way of building backlinks because:
The link juice that is passed to your site from the link added to your comment on blogs is small.
Link juice means the weight of the backlink you're getting.
You know each site pages is ranked (Page Rank). When a site links to other sites from any of it pages, it shares that page's rank with the sites it links to.
The more sites a page links to the lower the weight of the link.
And already most sites have low page rankings. But even if the page rank of a blog is high, the juice will still be small.Imagine there is a jug full of pineapple juice to be shared among hundred or more people. What amount of juice do you think each person will get?
It's even worse with high page rank and popular blogs, because some posts on such blogs gets three hundred or more comments. So the rank of that page is being shared among those number of people.
Another thing to note is that links above a page's content gives better link juice than links below a page.
Most of the popular blogs you find today are Nofollow.
A blog that is nofollow means it has the nofollow tag, rel="nofollow" attached to it pagesand comment links.
If a certain page on a site is nofollow, doesn't mean all it's pages are. Like a blogger could only make comment links nofollow, whereas all other links are dofollow.
A Nofollow tag included in a link means that the search engines will not pass link juice to the site being linked to. Meaning such site do not wish to share it page rank with the site it linked to.
And Dofollow is just the opposite. Without the nofollow tag, the search engines will pass link juice to all the links to other sites found on each page of the site.
But it is important to note that even with a nofollow tag, search engine will still follow your link, which is helpful for quick indexing.
And you'll still gain traffic because nofollow tag has no effect with people clicking to your blog.
So commenting on a nofollow blog isn't useless to you, except for link building.
Another good reason why backlinks from blog commenting is not reliable is that, a blogger can make it comments links dofollow today, and you comment and get some backlinks only to add the nofollow tag tomorrow for some reasons.
Without KeywordLuv or Commentluv plugins installed on the blogs you comment on, the backlinks you'll get won't be SEO friendly.
Keywordluv is a plugin that allows commentators to include their site or page keyword along with their names when making comments.
Say a blog has the Keywordluv plugin installed, after writing your comment, instead of just including your name, you can include any keyword of your choice like this: Karo@Blogging for Beginners and the link will display as: Karo from Blogging for Beginners .
It makes only your keyword anchor text, making your backlink SEO friendly.
CommentLuv is a plugin that when installed, searches each commenter's blog for the most recent post and creates a link to the post below his or her comment with the title of the post.
This does not only give you a backlink but could bring you alot of traffic, if your title is attractive or arouse curosity.
Without these two plugins or at least one of them installed, the backlinks created to your blog from comments on dofollow blogs will read your name, which will further reduce the quality of the backlinks.
And not many people use the Keywordluv plugin anymore since it encourages spam.
You can build some quality backlinks with blog commenting if you know what you're doing.
First know that for your backlinks from blog comments to have a positive effect on your site ranking, you'll have to regularly on make comments on many relevant blogs.
Look for tens of blogs related to your niche and make comments on their posts regularly.
Finding related blogs to comment on is one of the problems with blog commenting marketing.
Fortunately, while researching recently I found Fast Blog Finder .
It's one of the best blog search tool I have seen, because it has so many features, including being able to check to see if your comments have been approved.
The free version helps you find 50 blogs at a go related to the keyword you enter.
But since you're building backlinks, you'll have to manually look for blogs that has KeywordLuv, CommentLuv or Top Commentator plugin installed.
To get backlinks from Top commentator plugin, you have to comment on the blog regularly so as to have the highest number of comments at the end of the month or a certain period.
But first be sure it is dofollow, because some bloggers have it on nofollow.
It's easy to find blogs with the Commentluv plugin installed because most blogs use it.
For Keywordluv and Top commentator plugin, go to Google and type "List of blogs with top commentator plugin" (without the quotes) or "List of blogs with Keywordluv plugin"
Make sure the blogs comment links are dofollow.
To know this you can either highlight the link and use page source to see if the nofollow tag is attached or use the firefox search status , it will identify dofollow and nofollow links for you.
Leave valuable comments to ensure your comments will be approved.
If you want to comment on a blog that doesn't use the Keywordluv or Commentluv plugin, do not use a keyword in place of your name, because most webmaster frown at it.
Moreover it is not good for branding. Aside building backlinks you want to put your name out there. So that as you comment across related blogs fellow bloggers begin to identify with you.
As your name is spreading, so will your blog because if your comment always adds value, the blog owner and some commentators will click to visit your blog.
Now here is where blog commenting pays the most. And it has no conditions attached.
I mean unlike when using it for backlink building where you have to make sure the blog is dofollow, has KeywordLuv or CommentLuv installed, you can comment on any related niche blog.
And as long as your comment adds value and you sound like you know what you're saying, you'll get good traffic from commenting on blogs, especially if you comment regularly on a lot of blogs.
And with the Fast Blog Finder, you'll easily find related blogs to comment on.
Like I said before, blog commenting is beneficial to the commenter and the blog owner. As a blogger you can use blog commenting to market your blog and get more backlinks and traffic.
And as a blog owner having a strong community on your blog where readers discuss your posts brings great benefits too.
But not many blogs get comments from readers. Many readers are either shy to comment or just lazy to.
What can you do then, to encourage readers to comment?
Readers will be more likely to comment if they know they'll be helping themselves as well.
Some popular blog owners will tell you don't have to do anything to encourage readers to comment, that readers should comment out of their free will.
Well, to some extent they are right. I mean for me, I comment when I feel I have something to add to a post not because of the traffic benefit.
Having said that, there is nothing wrong at all to make commenting on your blog worth the readers time. I mean, they are providing you with free content and giving you their time.
Most times I spend 30 minutes or more making comment on one blog, because I first read the post, read most or all of the comments the post has gotten, then I make my comment. At times more than 500 words long.
So rewarding readers one way or another for commenting on your blog is a right thing to do, whether or not your blog is popular.
Install the CommentLuv plugin: Aside that it will give a backlink to commentators recent blog post and send then traffic, it is also a good way for your blog readers to find interesting topics. Thereby offering more value to your readers.
Install the KeywordLuv plugin : KeywordLuv as you know allows commentators to leave keyword rich backlink.
Install Top Commentator widget.
Top commentator widget for Wordpress
Top commentator widget for Blogger
You don't have to install all the plugins, just choose one or two you're best comfortable with using.
If you decide to install the Top commentator widget, please read this article . It discusses the drawbacks of using the widget and provides tips on how to best use it.
Also know that if you install the KeywordLuv plugin, you'll likely be getting more spam comments.
First install the dofollow plugin for Wordpress to remove the nofollow attributes Wordpress adds to comments links.
