How you write and present your blog content is very important to your blog success.
In your blog writing your goal is to please your readers and the search engines.
This article discusses important points that you should take note of when writing your blog post...
That is if you want to write a post that not only readers will love but that can easily get ranked high in search results.
People can go on and on about how they think you should write your blog posts but I am going to discuss how you can create content that gets the click under some important sub-headings.
The secret to ranking between the first and fifth page of Google for most of the keywords you write on is in your choice of keywords.
Do not just pick a topic and start writing on it. Select your keywords carefully.
Whenever you want to write a post look for a keyword related to the topic you want to write on with good number of monthly searches and low competition.
Let most of your pages be based on keywords that are easy to rank for.
When you've selected a keyword to write on, the next thing to do is find related keywords to that keyword to scatter into your article.
Like when I picked the keyword effective keyword research some of it related keywords after my research were :
"how to do keyword research"
"basic keyword research"
After picking out the related keywords I'll optimize the page for "effective keyword research" because it's my primary keyword. But then I'll blend in some of the related keywords within the page title if possible, and some within the body of the content.
The purpose of doing this is to have the page ranking high for many related keywords.
Moreover having different related keywords to a primary keyword within your blog content further convinces the search engines of what the page is about.
Use an advanced keyword tool to find profitable keywords related to your Site topic.
Once you have those profitable keywords, whenever you want to write a post, go to your keyword list, pick a keyword you want to write on.
And you can then use a free tool, like the Google Adword tool to find related keywords to that keyword to scatter within your content.
No matter how well you think you know a topic you want to write on, doing some research on it to see what others currently say about it.
This will not only help you provide a fully packed information on the blog topic but helps you to present the topic in a better way.
The best article is the one written from knowledge and experience with a combination of good research.
There is no topic I write on without first researching on it.
Create keyword focused categories. Check your keyword list for keywords that can form your categories. Then use the keywords exact names to name your categories.
Don't forget that you used a keyword to name each category. So the first post title on each category should naturally read the category's name .
Remember, that each page should be keyword focused. See Keyword search engine optimization
Images can do wonders for your blog content.
First it draws your readers in and then it brings you additional traffic from the search engines through image search (whether you benefit from image search traffic will depend on your niche).
See the article on blog images on how to format and use images on your blog.
In other words, how long should your blog post be?
Well, as long as it takes to say all that you have to say about the subject. At least that's how long I write my articles.
If you follow my posts you'll realize they are usually long but sometimes short.
I like to provide detailed information on every topic I write on. If there is much to say on a topic, I say it. When there is not, I leave it as short as it should be.
Do not unnecessarily drag your content into several paragraphs. If 250 words can make your point leave it at that. If it can be made in 500 words do so.
If it gets to more than a thousand words, you can consider breaking the post into parts. When you break a topic into parts, make sure you link them all together so readers can find all parts (you'll see how to create links below).
Inter-linking pages directs readers to related content on your blog. The reader gets more information on that topic and gets to spend reasonable time on your blog.
The time a visitor spends on your site are monitored by the search engines and used as a criteria for off page optimization.
Moreover the longer a visitor stays on your site, the greater the chances that he or she will take your most wanted response, which could either be to subscribe to your feed, newsletter, click on your ad, check out a product recommendation e.t.c.
For regular and proper page linking, deliver your content in a step by step format. That way the previous post can easily link to the next post and the next to the previous because they will all be related.
It means every post under a category should be related so it can all be linked together.
See the link I added above for blog images? That link easily blended in because I am discussing how to write a blog content.
And blog images is the immediate post to blog content. Blog images will link to another related post.
So plan the presentation of your content well before writing them.
Your first post under a category should also link to another category (if they relate).
Linking within Blog
The Wordpress KB linker plugin or SEO smart links has made inter-linking within blog very easy for Wordpress blogs.
You set the words you want linked to certain URLs within the plugin. For example you set the words 'Wordpress' and "Wordpress tutorials" to always link to 'wordpress.org' and save it.
What this does is that whenever you use the word 'Wordpress' within a page it automatically links it to that URL. If you use that word more than once within a page, it only creates one link.
To maximize the benefit of inter-linking, make sure you use keywords in linking your pages. Say you create a page with the keyword "business advice", after publishing that page, go to your KB linker and add the word "business advice" to link to that page's URL.
So whenever you mention business advice in subsequent related posts, it links to the post you have created for that keyword without you having to manually create a link for it.
Do not open pages within your site in different windows. It could be annoying to readers.
Linking to outside pages
Whenever you are linking out to another site, make sure you have the site open in another window.
I get disappointed when I am reading an article on a site and click on a link within the article only to lose the page I was reading; except I click to go back.
This is very unprofessional but surprisingly it is very common with the so-called pros.
If you have links to other sites open on a different window, you keep your site underneath and readers can always easily come back to your site after seeing the other site.
To create hyper-text link (text with links underneath) to other sites, use the format below.
The Text you want it to read (opens in the same browser or window)
<a href="The Page URL of the site you are linking to"target="_blank">The Text you want it to read (opens in different browser)
Example
How to start a blog
The above link will display as How to start a blog
