Blog posting in Wordpress is like a breeze.
Even as a beginner you can create and publish attractive, pulling, and search engine optimized blog posts and pages. This article shows you how easy it is.
Like I said it is easy to make a post in Wordpress especially if you are used to Microsoft word document.
Even if you are not, making a post to your blog is still a breeze.
Login to your Wordpress dashboard. Above the left hand side, you will find the word 'Posts', immediately below it click Add new.
When the document page is displayed, type your title in the title field. As you give the page a title, it is automatically saved as the permalink (page address location).
If your title most probably will be long making the permalink long.
Click on the Edit link just below permalink and reduce the link to just your keyword for the post or page.
Keep in mind that when you are re-writing a permalink, you must add a dash between all the words you use. Like 'how-to-start-a-blog' and save.
Then go ahead and type your document on the text box. Or like I do, you might want to type your text in MS word, then just copy and paste in your Wordpress text box.
There are different options available to add life to your posts.
You can add image to further draw readers to the post and illustrate the point of the post.
You can make your post scannable using the bold tag to highlight sub-headings (It's better to put keyword focused sub-headings in h2 or h3 tag).
You can also use the bold and italic tag to emphasize a statement.
You can create blockquote (to highlight some points, text, quotes and so on).
Use bullets and numbers to create lists and you can break your posts with the read more tag.
You don't have to know HTML tags to beautiful your posts. They are already represented above text box, just click on the appropriate tag symbol to use it.
And bear in mind that an open tag must have a corresponding closing tags.
So when using some of the tags, you will have to click twice on the symbol of the tag.
First place your cursor at the beginning of the text you want to use the tag on and click on the tag symbol. Then place your mouse at the end of the text and click again. See example below.
The above will display as the image below.

For the list tag, you have two options. The 'li' is the tag for creating list. But you have to state how you want the list to appear.
Do you want it bulleted in which case you use the 'ul' tag at the beginning and closing of your list items. Or if you want it numbered, use the 'ol' tag.
You can add images, videos, audios and media files to your post right from your computer.
We are discussing adding image files to your post. But take note that it is the same process for the other mentioned files.
Before adding images to your blog post, read the article using blog images .
If you want to add an image to your post make sure you have the image saved to your computer before hand. Then click on the image icon by Upload/Insert just above the text area of your Wordpress dashboard (see image above).
When the page loads click 'Select files' to choose the file from your computer. Then format it as you want it to appear.
If it is a photo you will like to be found for, add an alt text. Make sure it include your keyword.
And click insert to post. The code for the image would then appear on the beginning of your content.
Copy (use the cut function) and paste it where you want it to appear. See image below.
To create categories, click on categories by the left hand side of your dashboard.
Give your category a name.
Give it a Slug. Slugs are the URL friendly version of your category name. This is not necessary especially if your categories names are exact keywords (which is recommended).
If you would like to create sub-categories within a category, choose a parent category for the category. That way the category name you added will become a child (sub-category) to the parent category (main category).
You can also create categories in the publishing area of your blog.
After typing your post, you have the options of either publishing it immediately and publicly.
Publishing it immediately but privately (not displayed on your home page).
Publishing it immediately but password protected. So that only people who have the password have access to such post.
Scheduling it to post automatically on a stipulated date and time.
To publish immediately and have it available to everyone just click on Publish.
To publish immediately but privately click on Edit just beside 'Visibility: Public'. And check Private. click Ok to save settings.
To publish immediately but password protected click on Edit just beside 'Visibility: Public'. And check Password Protected. Enter a password for the page and Click Ok.
To schedule the post to be posted on a given date and time click on Edit just beside 'Publish immediately' and choose a date and exact time you want the post to get published. Click Ok.
I advice you read the article on blog content before writing any post.
The difference between posts and pages is that unlike blog posts that when published immediately displays on your home page as the latest post on your blog, pages don't appear on your home page when they are created.
They can only be accessed through a link usually in the navbar.
Examples of pages are the Contact page, About us or about me page.
To create a page just follow the same process of making a post explained above. The only difference is that instead of clicking on Posts in your dashboard to make a post you'll click on Pages.
