This blog software review takes a look at both version of Wordpress, the .com which is a free host site and the .org which is self hosted.
The major disadvantage the .com version of Wordpress has for make money bloggers is that it doesn't allow advertising.
If it did, it would have been a better choice to Blogger blog.
As it supports some useful plugin features, like Akismet (for automatically detecting and deleting spams), automatic pinging (for automatically notifying search engines whenever you make a new post) and others.
Typepad
Typepad is great. Allows for easy to use high level customization. But to use their service attracts a fee.

And you get to use your own domain name which is great for branding.
But if you think you can't afford the monthly or yearly web hosting fee, then Blogger is the answer because with some tricks you can make it fairly SEO friendly and buy a custom domain name for branding.
Wordpress.com is your best if you don't intend to make money from your blog.
