Google blogs are not at all SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friendly. In fact, not until recently when some people started discovering different tricks/hacks to use on blogger blogs, your blog content gets duplicated from the way the software is set to work.

Duplication of content is a great offense to search engines and your blog could get penalized for it. In fact now I understand why some Google blogger blogs gets deleted for spams when the owners do honest business with the blogs. You spam without actually having any idea of it.

Now the hacks that are being used to reduce these issues as you will see in the following series on Google blogger, does not completely rule out duplication of meta tags, or does it optimize your blog and pages as much as on-page SEO requires. They only remove you from danger zone to a little less danger zone.

To make your blog look professional, you have to manually edit the template with different codes. Even at that, you may not be able to get your blog to look exactly the way you want it. And as a beginner just starting out, your time should be spent on more important things.

If not for the favicon of blogger always at the top of the browser when you visit Google blog sites, you could almost confuse them for a Wordpress blog with the way they have been customized to look and a custom domain name to display.

The Three Steps to Creating a Blog on Google Blogger

Like I said before, to make sure you get these steps right and more to come, I actually set up a blogspot blog, after all it's free right?. Well, this is because it's easier to point you to the right direction with a practical example.

Step 1 : How to Create a Blog on Blogger.com

Sign Up for Blogger Blog

Go to Blogger.com

Enter your Google email address to login. If you don't have then first go create a Google email account and then come back and log in.

Enter a display name, tick email notifications if you want it. Accept terms and click Continue.

Step 2 : Give your Blog a Name and Address

Now make sure before starting on the journey of setting up a blog you have done your keyword research. This is because your blog name or title and address (URL) are very important for the search engines and your readers to immediately know what your blog is about and for the search engines to rank it.

The articles above will give you a strong idea of what the overall topic of your blog should be and then help you determine with a detailed research whether or not your topic will be profitable.

Once you have done your research and chosen a keyword that better define the purpose of your site, then make sure when choosing a blog name and title you include that keyword. It's called on-site Optimization. The idea is to use the keyword you have chosen in specific places on your site.

Even while this blog I am creating is mainly for the purpose of this tutorial, I still took some time to do a keyword research before settling for the name. Just in case I decide to use the blog in future (which is impossible anyway). When you're sure of the keyword you want as your site overall concept, enter it in the form and click Continue.

The keyword I choose is 'Relationship Issues' and as you can see I have added it to my blog title and Address.

Step 3 : Choose a Template for your Blog

Just choose any of the templates displayed by clicking on it and click Continue. Don't be picky here you can always change it later.

My advice for choice of template (See Best Free blogger template) is don't click any template, just click Continue. That way it will use the default template to create your blog which in my opinion is best for customization and I love it because it has a clean white background.

I though for the demonstration blog uploaded a new template as you will see when we preview it. For now See below another test I did using the default template so you know what it looks like.

And Congratulations! You have just created your first Google blogger blog and you are ready to start blogging!
