This article is just to direct you on how to go about building your backlinks to ensure its counted by Google. And also you don't jeopardize your site in the process of trying to get backlinks, especially now with Google's series of Panda updates.

So here is the top 10 tips on building links that I know of and that I have consistently used in generating backlinks for my sites and seeing good result.

How to Build Backlinks - Tips

• Know your goal for getting backlinks.
  
  Are you trying to increase the rank of your home page or a particular inner page?
• Know the keywords you wish to rank top for. So you can use them as informative text when creating your backlinks.
  
  If you don't know wish keywords you wish to rank a site or pages for, your link campaign is flawed already.
• Make at least 80% of your backlinks keyword anchor text for various keywords you wish to rank top in the search engines for.
  
  Tip two again is to identify your keywords.
  
  Then in tip 3 use the keyword(s) you have identified to rank for as text in your backlinks.
  
  Assuming you wish to rank for the keyword 'how to find good keywords, any site you want to get backlinks from, you add the html <a href="http://www.blogging-the-beginners-complete-guide.com/how-to-find-good-keywords.html"target="_blank">How to find good keywords</a> (opens in a different browser or window) to the site.

• Know what you are doing. This sounds lame but it's important.
  
  If I want to start a link building campaign for a new site, I will take it gradually. Take it slow then improve on it. That is how Google expects it to work, it appears natural that way and your site will improve instead of getting kicked off the rankings.
  
  You can't just start a site today, and in a few days 50-100 sites are already linking to it.
  
  But for an old site of at least 6 months, you can afford to send many number of backlinks at once (but never too much at a time) and not get into trouble with Google.
  
  The best policy is always to make things real as possible.
• Aim for quality at all times. To have quality backlinks, get your backlinks from related quality sites and use your keyword as text in your backlinks.
• Knock off your competitors from the top rankings by spying on their backlinks sources. This is very easy to do.

  Install SEO Quake (type that in Google and get a download link). And type your keyword in the search engines.
  
  SEO squake will then display all the sites information below them in the rankings including their numbers of backlinks. Click the each of the number of backlinks on the top 10 pages for the keyword and download them.
  
  Then visit each of these sites where the links where gotten from and see if you can get a backlink too.
  
  Do this for all the backlinks of the top 10 sites, and you'll see your site will improve fast in ranking. This is a good way to start building quality backlinks to a site.

• Do without link exchanges if you can. Focus on one way backlinks.
  
  There is nothing wrong with getting a few link exchanges if you can make sure that the site is relevant to yours, of quality, does not have much outbound links on the page where your link will be added. And doesn't practice black -hat SEO techniques.
• Diversify how and where you get your backlinks.
  
  By how you get your backlinks, I mean use different anchor text for your keywords so it appears natural, especially if you are building many backlinks at a time.
  
  By where I mean, do not get your backlinks all from one source. Try to use as many of the different free ways available to get quality backlinks as possible.
• If you have multiple sites, do not interlink them except they are related. Even when they are related, link only one or two to each other because Google stores sites IP address.
  
  So they will know you own all the sites that are linked to each other. And that can become suspicious to Google even though there was a good cause to do so. So be careful doing this.
• Monitor your backlinks so you know what kind of sites are linking to you and the keywords they are using to link to you.
  
  So that if a site links to you without using your keyword or using a keyword you are not interested in, you can contact the site owner, appreciate him or her for linking to your site and kindly ask that they change the text in the link to the one of your choice.
  
  Doing this will help you improve the quality of your backlinks.
