How To Do SEO For Niche Sites : Update

by Sofia

Hi!

I'm new to this game and I'm reading your blog with great interest. However I know that SEO is a changing business and I'd like to know when you wrote the blog updates on your niche site challenge? I really don't have clue about this business (yet) so that's why I'm asking.

Best,

Sofia

Hello Sofia,

Thanks for visiting and reading my site. It's good to know you have interest in Niche sites, when done properly I think it's a quicker way to make money from a blog.

I started the challenge during the last week of the month of May, 2011. And what I did was just basic SEO, I didn't use any black hat SEO. So I wouldn't say anything has changed.

However, here are some tips on optimizing and ranking a niche site:

Your real competition no matter how many they actually are, are those top 10 pages on Google for the keyword you are targeting. So analyze those sites very well, and be sure that most of those sites are not very authority sites, because then it will take you more work and time to push any of them off the top. This is what happened with my site. I was stuck in page 2 for a long time. Though tip 3 below was also a good reason while that was.

When using tags per post, don't use more than two or three at most. I realize it could cause content duplication.

When you build backlinks, don't just relax and expect that Google will find them by itself. Put in effort to help Google quickly find them and index them. So that your page will move faster up the rank. I only realized this not too long.

Last year Google brought out series of panda updates , and the most emphasis was on writing quality unique content.

So whether it's niche blogging or full blogging that interests you, do your best to write quality unique content at all times. Aside from staying off the Google radar and getting good ranking for your site and pages, you will be offering real value to people. And many of them will come to appreciate you and your site, and will spread your content for you, allowing you to get traffic from other sources aside Google.

Hopefully, sometime in the future I will write a complete article on my lessons and findings on doing a niche site, and provide a more authentic guide to use. But for now you can rely on the process I shared here, after all, it got me to page 2 for a very competitive keyword that had many authority sites on the first page of Google. And I didn't use any paid tool until recently.

I wish you all the best in your niche site set up. If you can, please update me here later on how it's going.
