How to get backlinks?
Getting backlinks is an essential part of page ranking and search engine optimization (SEO).
This article discusses several ways to generate backlinks that of high quality to your blog or website.
In a previous article on building backlinks I already explained what backlinks are and how they work.

This article's focus is simply on how to build backlinks to your site.
Brief detail will be given on each of the backlink building method that is listed. Previous articles have discussed each of these methods in detail, so simply use the link created for each of them to get more detail.
How to Get Backlinks
I could have written the "101 ways of getting backlinks to your blog", but in truth you don't need such long list to build quality backlinks to your site and rank high for your keywords at the search engines.
Moreover, if I make such list most of the ways that would be discussed would probably not provide any real link juice to your site.
So instead of wasting my time and yours, I only discussed ways that I am sure you can build links with any time, any day. And most of them high quality links too.
Ways to Get Backlinks
Guest Posting
I think my favorite method of building backlinks is guest posting, this is because of the many benefits that comes along with it.
If you read the article on link building above you'll see I encouraged using the 80/20 methods of building links. That is 20 percent of the effort for 80 percent reward or benefits.

Traffic
If you can put in the time and energy, guest posting is one of the few ways you can use to transform your blog from zero to hero in few months.
Like my friend from youngprepro did.
Article marketing
Article marketing is my second favorite backlinking method. In that like guest posting it has many benefits.
Backlinks from multiple sites who will republish your articles.
Traffic also from multiple sites.
Branding. As you submit more articles, you become seen as an expert. That is why ezine articles give expert recognition when you achieve a certain status.
The more articles you publish, the higher the chance of several of your articles getting republished and your name and site spreading on the internet.
Blog commenting
Blog commenting is another good way to generate backlinks to your site. Multiple benefits also. I told you I am all for the 80/20 link building methods.
I usually don't comment on blogs for the purpose of getting a backlink to mine, because when you have that in your mind then you might not be very interested in adding value with your comment.
Instead you'll be all about, how many blogs have I commented on, which shouldn't be.
Presently I have 4 blogs I follow their updates and I only comment when I know I have something to add and not just to say "Thanks for a great post" or "Really helpful post".
When I comment I take time to add content, at times more than 500 words and the result?
My third highest traffic referrer is one of those blogs.
Add value with your comment and you'll have some readers checking out your site - Free traffic.
You also get backlinks. I have some backlinks from blog commenting. Though I don't do it for the backlinks, but when I find a site that has a Keywordluv plugin installed, I add a keyword along with my name, if not, I use my name.
But you can effectively use blog commenting for building quality backlinks. As you can see from the blog commenting article above and from this commenting for backlinks experiment .
Blog commenting when properly done is best for branding.
Forums
Using forums come with as many benefits as the backlinking methods already discussed above. The backlinks usually come from your profiles. To maximize the benefits of using forums you must be a regular participant and add value every time.
If you want to use forums for building backlinks then first confirm before joining the forum that it doesn't use the no-follow tag that tells the search engine not to follow the links from the forum because some forums are no-follow.
Directory Backlinks
Getting links from directories is not among my favorite ways of getting backlinks. But if you submit your url properly as you should and use some quality directories, it is a good way especially for a new site to get started on building links.
Social Bookmarking
Where I love social bookmarking is when things happen naturally. That is you have social bookmarking icons on your site and readers willingly bookmark your content because they find it useful. Not you submitting your site to hundreds of sites.
Though I do that sometimes, but I always love it when my readers find my content useful enough to spread it around. Please don't forget to share this article at the end if you found it useful.
Link Swapping (reciprocal linking)
Reciprocal link exchange is a good way to build backlinks. That is when it is from quality related sites and it's a SEO backlink, that is with keyword text in the link.
Social Media Marketing
There are different social media sites where we socialize and sometimes share link to our articles that bring us some backlinks. Like facebook, twitter and it likes.
Though social media sites are better used for branding and driving traffic to site.

Press releases can be a great way to get backlinks. But it is not an every day link building method because it require your article to be newsworthy.
How to Get Backlinks using a Backlink Builder
There are different backlink builders designed to help you in your backlink building. I was looking around and found this free backlink builder that you could find helpful.
You type in a keyword and it brings you different site pages that mention your keyword. And some sites on your keyword where you can get a backlink, either by submitting a url or posting a comment.
The sites that the backlink builder above will bring you will mostly consist of forums and directories, but you'll also find some sites on your niche where you can get backlink.
