How to Install Wordpress - Wordpress Installation

How to install Wordpress?

With Wordpress installation you have two options. Either install from your hosting account, which is the easiest, or use an FTP client.

This article demonstrates installing Wordpress on Hostgator hosting account, which is one of the best blog hosting services . And installing Wordpress using an FTP client.

Install Wordpress directly from your hosting account or download the Wordpress software from wordpress.org to your computer. Then use an FTP client to connect to your web server and upload the software.

I prefer installing Wordpress through my hosting account but you can decide which to use from both explanations below.

Installing Wordpress on Hosting Account

Most of the popular web hosting companies support Wordpress application. And below I discussed step by step how to install Wordpress on one of the well-known web hosting companies - Hostgator.

How to Install Wordpress on Hostgator

First Purchase web hosting from hostgator

Hostgator is the best host there is. And I say this because of the great service they offer, especially their live chat support which can be compared to none in the industry.

Plus they have all the tools you will need to get going quickly, like one minute Wordpress installation and superb backup tools.

After your purchase you will be sent an email that contains your Username and Password for login to your control panel.

Login to your control panel or web panel. Under services/software click on Fastastico. On the left hand side of the next page, click on Wordpress under blogs category.

On the next page click on New Installation and a form will be displayed where you need to enter your domain root directory.

Choose the domain where you'll like to install Wordpress. You have the option of installing at the root of the directory or under sub-domain.

Your Root directory being http://www.yourdomainname.com and your sub-directory being http://www.yourdomainname.com/blog

To save at the root directory just leave it blank.

You need to create a Username and password that you will be using to access your blog's Admin panel. Click Install Wordpress after entering the necessary information.

It will then display the information it is going to use to install your Wordpress.

Copy and Save it somewhere for future reference. Then click Finish installation. Also copy the next information that follows containing your admin log in details.

Hostgator doesn't offer support for Wordpress installation so you have to keep your details safe.

Below the page where your details are displayed, you are asked to enter your email address, so you can be sent the details about your installation.

Make sure you enter a correct email address.

How to Install Wordpress using an FTP client

If you are using a web host that does not have the Wordpress software then you will have to first download Wordpress software from Wordpress.org and upload to your web server using an FTP client.

First download FTP client filezilla

Then login with Hosting/FTP User Name and password that you created when you launched your hosting account. And connect to your web server.

Once connected upload the downloaded Wordpress application to your server.
