In this article on keyword search engine optimization I discussed the steps to optimizing posts and pages for your keyword; keyword density (how often your keyword should appear on a page) and a keyword optimization tool you could try.
Keyword optimization means incorporating targeted keywords within metadata (see blogging terms) , images, and on page content to improve search engine rankings for that keyword phrase post or page.
If you have done effective keyword research by now you should have lots of keywords saved.
How you pick your keywords and use it on your blog, posts and pages will determine largely whether or not you succeed online.
SEO keyword optimization comes natural for some, while others struggle through.
I am not exactly a pro myself. But I have learnt a lot from those seeing success online partly as a result of good on page organic search engine optimization.
And what I have learnt so far and practicing is what I will be sharing in the following steps below.
Optimize your title for at least 2 keywords, the primary keyword and one or two of the related keywords you found from step 2.
Your primary keyword should start your title. If that's not possible, it should be the second word of the title. But definitely not exceed the third word.
Scatter all the related keywords you found within the article.
Put keyword focused sub-headline within h2 or h3 tags. This is because search engines give attention to words bolded on a page.
Use your primary keyword within the article a little more than good English allows.
Put your primary keyword in a text link if possible.
Use a keyword density tool or keyword optimization tool to see if your page is well optimized for your primary keyword.
The primary keyword for this page is "Keyword Search Engine Optimization". Some of the related keywords are :
SEO keyword optimization
Keywords optimization
Keyword search optimization
Now if you look at the page title and sub-title you'll find two of these related keywords. Depending on how the keyword flows into a sentence, I am able to optimize my title for 3-4 keywords.
Why is this important?
Doing that allows you to rank for those other keywords too. Remember the page title is one of the most important items in search engine ranking optimization.
So you have a page ranking for several related keywords unlike when you optimize for just one keyword.
How often should your targeting keyword appear on a page for a proper keyword search engine optimization?
Keyword Density is the percentage of occurrence of your keyword to the text in the rest of the page.
There are several opinions as to the number of times a page's keyword should appear on a page.
Some claim it should be 2%-5% of the entire page content. And others even suggests you use a calculator to see if the number of times you used your keyword on a page meets a certain percentage.
This is really not necessary. And keyword density doesn't even carry much weight anymore. I have seen pages on the first page of Google that used their keyword just once, twice at most.
As you know the search engines look at different factors when ranking a page.
So if you fail in one factor and do really well in other important factors being used for ranking then you can still win.
My point is keyword density could put you ahead of your competitors if other things are in place, such as if you have an old domain, good content that people spend longer time on your site, and good links.
You could win over competitors who have same thing but with poor page optimization.
But if you lack the others but have a good page optimization it's most probably that your competitors who did poorly with keyword optimization will win over you.
So there is not strict rule here but do take advantage of anything that can give you extra points against competitors.
Some people frown at keyword search engine optimization or SEO in general with the notion that it is better to write for readers.
Granted, but if the search engines don't find you, how will readers find your content to read and appreciate it?
Do you want to be chasing traffic all over the web everyday?
The beauty of Internet business is because it can run itself and bring you money without you working everyday.
And when you can please both parties while settle for one and limit yourself?
Strive to find a balance between pleasing the search engines and your readers. Do not overuse a keyword in a way that readers notices it. Or under use it and the search engines don't know what the page is about.
For keyword density, there are some softwares that analyzes a page and determine if the keyword is underused or overused.
I did a search and found the Keyword density checker .
It's free to use. After publishing a page, go to the site. Enter the URL (Address of the page) and keyword of that page and click Analyze.
Note that I have not used this software before. So I can't tell how it provides it data or how effective it is. But give it a try.
