Making money from a blog is dream for many people, including you I believe.
But why some bloggers are making thousands of dollars every month from their blogs, you as well as many others are struggling to make a dollar. The reason for this simple.
They get thousands of daily visitors to their blogs, and when you have that, there are literally dozens of ways to make money blogging.
But when you don't have good traffic, it's hard to make a decent income from your blog.
However, depending on where your low traffic is coming from and how you monetize your blog, you can make a hundred or more dollars with a low traffic, at least something good enough to encourage you for the effort you put into your blog every day.
This article discusses the possible ways you can be making money from a blog with low traffic.
First your traffic has to be targeted, then you have to select how you monetize your blog because most of the ways to monetize a blog and make money blogging are dependant on high traffic.
How many traffic do you get? And is it targeted?
Even though it feels good to get thousands of traffic to a site, it's not the important thing. The important thing is where are the traffic coming from?
Are they from social network sites where the readership is not targeted or are they from search engines and related sites?
At this stage you should already know that the best source of traffic for a site that intends to make money is the search engines.
So how many traffic do you have, can you make money with it?
You can start making money from a blog with 50/day traffic if it is targeted.
If you have between 50-100/day traffic, and all or 80% of it is from the search engines, then you can be making some money from your blog using the monetization options discussed below.
If you don't have between 50-100/day visitors, or you do but they're not from the search engine, or refferal sites with your target audience, then forget about making money from your blog for now.
Instead go read the article on how to increase blog your traffic and work to increase your blog traffic before coming backing to this article on making money from a blog.
First keep in mind that no matter the monetization model you apply on your blog, as long as you don't have high traffic, you won't be able to make a decent income.
But the ways of making money from a blog that is discussed below can make you few hundred dollars even though just 10 visitors to your blog in a month take action.
Affiliate marketing is about recommending a product, usually in the form of ebooks, DVDs, Audio CDs, E-course, membership site registration and so on, that fits with the needs of your target audience to them on your blog and within your blog posts.
You have a blog on weight loss for example, I have a product on "how to lose weight in 30 days". I need people to sign up as affiliates or promoters for my product, to refer me more prospects and possibly customers.
It will allow me to make more sales with little or no effort. More sales, more money, and it also allows me to focus on other projects I have. So I am willing to share 50% of the profit with my affiliates.
You have targeted visitors that will likely be interested in my products, you already give great value with your quality content, they trust you and would likely check out something you recommend.
Aside that recommending good products to your visitors is an added value, you also want to make money.
But you don't have enough authority to write a book yet or you don't have the time to do all that is involved in creating and selling your own product, so you see my book, like it and sign up as an affiliate.
You get a refferal link to direct people to the book on my website, once any of those you refer make a purchase, you get a 50% commission.
Affiliate marketing is one of the most common money making sources online, since it allows you to make good money without creating your own product, handling purchases or dealing with customers. You simply get the sale and make your money.
Some products sells for about $50, so it means for every sale you make, you get about $25. You only need to sell 4 products in a month to make a $100.
There are many affiliate networks you can sign up with to find products related to your niche to recommend to your blog audience. Some of them are clickbank.com, linkshare.com and cj.com
If you have some content that really offer value and you know visitors will be willing to pay for it, but you don't want to write a book, the easy way to make money from it is to offer it as a premium content.
You write and publish it on your blog as you would for your other blog posts, but visitors can only get access to the content after paying a certain fee. It could be a one time fee or a monthly subscription.
To be successful with a monthly subscription though, you have to be ready to regularly offer quality information good enough to encourage your subscribers to renew their subscription each month.
If you have 5 subscribers for a $20 monthly premium content subscription, that's makes you $100 every month from your blog.
You can easily create premium content using Wordpress blog.
Is there something you can offer to do for your blog audience that they will be willing to pay a fee for?
Like some blogs offer to set up professional blogs for their visitors for a fee, you can even get a free WordPress blog installation from ninjablogsetup.com , and some offer to write for others for a fee and so on.
Think along this line, and depending on your niche you might be able to come up with one or more service to sell on your blog.
If you can find a service to offer, even if only one of your visitors in a month buy your service, that would be something.
A refferal based promotion program, or what is known as CPA, cost per action, is similar to affiliate marketing, except that in this case those your refer don't have to buy anything for you to make a commission.
You get paid when those you refer to the site takes a certain action. It could be to fill a form or sign up for something. But it wouldn't involve the person making any purchase.
CPA programs are not common for some niches. But you can do research to see if you'll find some to sign up with.
I just found revresponse.com , I am yet to get much details about them, but you can visit the site and see if their service fits with your audience needs.
Create and sell your own product on your blog. It could be an ebook, a DVD or audio teaching, a blog theme, or anything fitting with your niche.
It's easier if you make it a product that can be easily downloaded so that you don't have to concern yourself with shipping and all that hard goods require to get the customer.
Creating and selling your own product online is easy to set up, and once you do, the process runs itself, making passive income for you.
Selling your own product is definitely more involving than selling someone else's in the case of affiliate marketing, but if you put the effort, you get 100% profit.
Visit the blog resources center of this site, you'll find free ebooks to download that works you step by step through how to create and successfully sell your own product online.
You only need to sell few products a month to make a decent income.
Pay Per Click ads is one of the easiest ways of making money from a blog when your traffic is high.
You apply to one or more networks and when your application is approved, you create an ad code and paste on your blog. Allowing the network to display ads related to the content of your blog.
And anytime a visitor clicks on any of those ads you make some money, which is usually small. But with high traffic, and many people clicking on the ads, the money can really add up.
There are several PPC advertising networks, but the common and most profitable of them to partner with is Google adsense .
How much you can make from PPC ads depend on several factors. But the most importance ones are:
The Cost Per Click (CPC) for your choosen keywords: How much are advertisers paying the advertising network for the type of ads displayed on your site? The higher the CPC, the higher the money you earn per click. If you want PPC ads to be one of your major income source for the long run, you need to have made sure that the CPC for your blog topic is reasonable before starting your blog.
In fact you need to have done research on your major monetization models to be sure they are profitable with your topic.
See the article on effective keyword research for profitable blogging . There I discussed in detail the step by step process for each research necessary.
Blog and Page keyword optimization: Is your blog and pages well optimized for your keyword?
When your blog and keyword optimization is properly done, it allows the ad network to display ads that properly compliment your content.
So they serve as added resources for your visitors, and they'll be quick to click on them because the ads relates to the information they are looking for.
You win, and so does the advertiser paying so much to the PPC advertising networks to promote his or her site and product.
Where you place the ads and your ability to blend it with your content : When you make the ads appear like part of the content on your site, your visitors will be more likely to click on them.
So instead of having them on your sidebar, place them by the side of your content instead and use the colors of your content for the ads.
When you have high targeted traffic, advertisers in your niche or related niche will be willing to pay you well to advertise on your site through the placement of banners, instead of paying an ad network.
How much you'll charge will depend on your traffic level, traffic source and the duration of the advert. If you do some research online you'll be able to find some guidelines on selling advertising space on your blog. Or you can let ad networks like buysellads.com handle it for you for a share of profit.
