First just wanted to say you have a great website.
That said, when I first started blogging I made the mistake of not thinking about my subject thoroughly. Years ago I started about 3 blogs and then terminated them.
Now with more maturity I wish I had kept them and did more keyword research to find out what people are looking for in those subjects. This way I could have shaped my articles and the focus of the blog towards my readers.
I also think if you're going to blog, it is helpful to subscribe to other blogs in your genre. Just commenting on some of the posts on other blogs(without spamming) will give you some good articles and subjects to write about.
Be careful that you don't give these pithy comments just to get someone to visit your blog. It doesn't work and you loose credibility with your potential readers.
The other thing I would have done differently: I would have done more interviews. One of the best features of my blogs is when I did email interviews,of which I edited myself, and then posted the interviews on my blog.
One of the persons I interviewed got more business and exposure because of the interview. I was also contacted to give another magazine rights to the interview.
I think the art of interviewing has been highly neglected. There are so many people who would love to have an edited interview on your blog and websites. Sometimes the people you think are your competitors are really your friends. One interview and you both win. How great is that.
Another thing I would have done differently: I would have spent more time looking for great content instead of monetizing too quickly. When you have a blog one of the first things people look for are ads. It doesn't look appealing if there are ads all over the blog. Just a few appropriate but discrete places is sufficient.
It is very tiring to blog consistently every day. I would say its better to spread out your blog content every other day or twice a week. As long as you are consistent, your clients will wait for the rss feed.
And since I'm on the topic of RSS feed, it is critical that you place your feed button where it can be found easily. I know that when I visit a blog and don't have the time to stay and read, I immediately look for the feed button.
Well thanks for letting me comment and feel free to take out the first section of this comment. I just wanted to give you a tip about the problogger name.
Appreciating all that you're doing.
