What does it mean to Ping blog?

Blogging and pinging refers to the writing and distributing of content on the web.

You blog ping or are blog pinging when you set up your blog to update, update services whenever you make a blog post.

When you publish content on your blog in form of articles and comments, you are blogging.

Now pinging is a means you use to distribute the content that you publish on your blog to the web.

In this article I explained how to configure Wordpress and Blogger blog ping functionality.

I also provided a list of ping or Update services you can add to your blog so that every time you make a post they are all updated.

When you configure or set up the ping functionality on your blog, whenever you make a post or an update, RSS feeds and major search engines are notified.

This allows for speedy indexing. And your pages are available in search results within 24hours.

This is where static websites lacks greatly.

How to Ping Blog - Wordpress and Blogger

Pinging is very important to blogging. And with Wordpress a ping service is already set up for you. All you do is add more update or ping services to the default http://rpc.pingomatic.com/

To do this, click on Settings from your dashboard. Then below settings click on Writing. You will see the default ping service. Just add as many update services as you want below the one there.

Below are the ones I use on my blogs. You can just copy and paste. But some of these services might no longer be available.

How to Ping Blog - Blogger

For Blogger users, go to your dashboard and click settings. Make sure Yes is selected by the side of "Let search engines find your blog?" If yes is not selected, select it and save. And you're done.
